Veggie Tales

After two weeks of oatmeal, Logan finally got to taste something besides straight breast milk or something mixed with breast milk. I decided that his first veggie would be sweet potato. It was one of Daddy's favorites as a child and is supposed to be a favorite with most babies. I think Matt was a little jealous that I was making sweet potatoes for Logan, since I don't cook them for us because I am not a fan. Sweet potatoes taste like cooked carrots to me, which is one of the few veggies I don't like. Anyways, Logan really seemed to love his sweet potatoes.
I swear he liked them.
After a few days of the taters, I moved him on to carrots. While I may not like cooked carrots, Logan LOVES them. We realized that he just liked the sweet potatoes compared to his love affair with carrots.
Carrots everywhere!
Next veggie up to bat: fresh farm-stand peas. I was really excited about the fresh peas because they were locally grown and they tasted great as I was shelling them (even Matt agreed). However, Logan did not think that they tasted too great. I did not thin the first batch out enough for him, making his super sensitive baby gag reflex kick in which scared the crap out of Momma and Daddy!
Peas make me gag.
After more processing, Logan will eat his peas. He is not excited about them like he is other foods, but he eats them.
Peas are okay now.
Acorn squash was next on the menu. I have never eaten acorn squash, but it is one of my grandpa's favorite veggies. And like his great-grandpa, Logan really likes it!
Ready for another bite of squash.
Now that I have four veggies that I know Logan likes, we are moving on to fruits. With every new food I prepare for him, I get so excited to see what his reaction is going to be to the new food. This is such a fun time of discovery with my little man.

Father's Day Weekend

The hat Logan gave Daddy for Father's Day.

Matt's first Father's Day was celebrated over a weekend, instead of just one day.

On Saturday, the family headed over to the Anheuser Busch plant for Rock N' Ribfest. Since we were going to Busch, we had to show Logan the Budweiser Clydesdales.
Whoa, that's a huge horse!

After that, we headed into the event for some good eatin'. This is the second time we have gone to the event and can't wait for Logan to get a little older so that he can enjoy the excellent kids activities, not to mention the food.
Can I eat ribs with one tooth?

The event wore the little man out!

On Sunday, Matt got to spend the day doing whatever he wanted. He enjoyed banana pancakes for breakfast. Daddy and Logan were able to spend some good quality time together while Momma cut the grass. Matt also spent time working on the cars, something he loves to do. The weather was a gorgeous, and the family took advantage of it. Matt had a great 1st Father's Day.

Aunt Jenny and Her Camera

I mentioned in the post about our trip to Georgia that the pictures posted were not all the pictures taken of the trip. Aunt Jenny has recently taken up photography and took some time to point her lens at Logan while we were in town. You can see a lot more of her work on her blog, but here are some of the pictures that she took during our trip south.
Telling the family about his first airplane trip.

We almost always get one of the following two comments from people we meet in public:
Either: "What a happy baby!"

Or: "So serious."

But we know better:  a goofball with many moods.

Say what you will, I just love my boy's chubby legs.

Uncle Adam, Papa, Daddy and Logan

Thanks for the bottle, Papa.

Meeting Great Aunt Becky

And 2nd cousin Jeff, or maybe it's cousin once removed?

And his wife, Leigh Ann

Meeting "Big" Papa, Logan's great-grandpa

4 Generations of Perry Men

I don't know if Logan is copying Britton or if she is copying him.

Nana, I am thirsty.
A special thanks to Aunt Jenny for the time that she took to take pictures of Logan.  We just love them!

For Better or For Worse

Over the past 6 years, we have had a handful of moments that have felt like the worst. Recently, however, things just keep getting better and better. Happy Anniversary, Hon.

1st Tooth

After nearly 4 months of hearing from everyone around us that Logan is teething, he has his first tooth. I discovered it when he decided to give it a test drive on my finger this morning. His bottom, left of center tooth is poking through. It looks so foreign to see a little white tip where I have only seen gums before. And so it begins!

7 Months Old

Logan turned 7 months old on Monday and here is what is going on in his world.

In the past month, he has really taken to sucking him thumb while rubbing the back of his head with the free hand. He does it when he is tried, but also as a self-soothing technique. It's pretty cute. I just hope he does not suck his thumb until he is 10.

Another new cute thing: Logan's old man face. He frequently covers his bottom gum with his lip and “bites” down with his upper jaw. He looks like an old man without his teeth in.
As close as I have gotten to a picture of old man face.

One of Logan's new loves: Momma's hair. He loves to eat it or get a fist full and suck his thumb. Yes, the thumb again. I did not want a paci baby, but it looks like I have got a thumb baby. Another good hair trick, if he is a little upset, I can wave my hair in front of his face and he is all grins. Unfortunately for Daddy, it is a trick only Momma can preform.
Hard to tell, but the back of Logan's head is coated in oatmeal.

Logan is speaking more and more different types of sounds. In fact, we think he has an imaginary friend named “Bob.” He just lies there and says “bob, bob, bob” over and over again.

While he loves Rocky, Logan is very much his mother's child because he loves all dogs. He thought Mackie's dog, Lexie, was very funny. But who does not think a chihuahua is funny?! He also loved Uncle Kyle's dog, Hurley. They fell so in love, that they made out.

Logan has begun to demonstrate his primal skills by using his feet a lot. When laying on his back, he likes to holds objects with both his hands and his feet.

Logan continues to use rolling as a means of transportation. He can get to just about anywhere he wants this way. He is rolling so much that I really have to keep and eye on him to keep him away from the fireplace and Rocky's bed. We are not too far from starting to childproof the house.

While Logan has been putting himself to sleep at night for a while, he has recently gotten to the point where he can also do it for naps. This is so awesome because that used to be the part of the day that I dreaded. Speaking of naps, he is still the king of 40 minute naps. Occasionally he will throw in a 3 hour nap, just to get my hopes up and throw me off. I am not going to complain about the naps, though, since he has almost always been a rock star at night. There are many moms in Mother's Group who are jealous of the sleep I get each night. However, we recently learned that Logan does not like to sleep when it is hot (but who does?). Living in New England, we do not have a/c. One may think that it is because you don't need it, but that thinking would be wrong. While we do not need it often, it sucks when you don't have it. The other week, it was close to 90 degrees and Logan's room crept up to 85 degrees by the time we put him to bed, or attempted to put him to bed. We got the window unit in his room the next day. Problem solved.
Where did it all go?

With summer here, we are looking forward to getting out a lot more and seeing all kinds of new things! Logan really seems to enjoy his adventures, as long as Momma or Daddy are nearby.

Like Father, Like Son

Logan dressed the part in his Car's shirt.

Anyone who knows anything about Matt knows that he loves cars. Over the years I have supported his passion through new car auto shows (my personal favorite), classic car shows, muscle car museums, and even a trip to the drag way. Today was Matt's first opportunity to share his love with Logan at the 4th Annual Motor Mania in a neighboring town. We have attended this event before and this year was just like years past: lots of different types of cars all lined up being viewed by people from all walks of life. It was a beautiful day to be out so fun was had by all.

The car behind Daddy and Logan is an ancient ancestor of Daddy's car.
